On Thursday 25th of May 2023, we hosted the First In-School Session of the Periods of Change Project! This took place a few days prior to menstrual hygiene day on Sunday, 28th of May 2023.
In collaboration with Inspire to Rise and our partner, Futurestars Charity, OMA Ladies had an incredible opportunity to educate over 100 girls and boys at Community 8/1 Basic School on menstrual hygiene awareness. It was an educative, empowering, and enlightening experience!
We had the pleasure of presenting the “Oblayoo Bag” (Lady’s Bag); each containing sanitary pads, panties, and soap for approximately 75 girls who have already started their menstruation journey. The bags were donated by Trashy Bags Africa, an upcycled cosmetic bag made from plastic waste found on the streets and schools of Ghana.
We had a nurse on site to share valuable knowledge with the children. She explained how menstruation occurs and discussed best practices for maintaining good hygiene.
It was a great pleasure for OMA to play a role in ensuring that the girls are enlightened on Improving menstrual health and hygiene, as this can reduce the risk of infections and other health complications which may keep them out of school.
The children were evidently excited to see OMA ladies at the school and were also very happy to receive the bags.
